Van fire

A van caught fire at approximately 11:30 a.m. Monday at 2318 W. Grand Ave. when the son of the vehicle owner attempted to use a torch to cut the vehicle in half, according to daughter-in-law, Melanie Gutierrez. Ruben Acuna was attempting to remove the disabled vehicle by cutting it in half, she said. The fire was extinguished by the fire department in less 10 minutes and no one was hurt, according to Kevin Crouch, Clovis Fire Department battalion chief.
