A two-vehicle accident Monday morning claimed the life of a Bovina man.
Leroy Scott Gober, 78, of Bovina was killed on impact when the pickup he was driving collided with an 18-wheeler at about 9:15 a.m. (CDT) at the intersection of State Highway 86 and Third Street, according to Bovina Police Chief Leon Sadler.
Gober turned onto Third Street when his pickup was struck by an 18-wheeler carrying corn driven by Ruben Uriegas, according to Sadler.
Gober was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sadler said both vehicles were traveling about 40 to 45 mph, below the speed limit in the area.
“It’s just the simple fact that Mr. Gober did not see the vehicle (while turning),” Sadler said.
Uriegas, also from Bovina, was admitted to Parmer County Community Hospital in Friona, where he was listed in stable condition Monday afternoon.
