College set to start Cultural Arts Series

Entering its seventh season, the Clovis Community College Cultural Arts series kicks off with a wine and cheese gala and a performance by blues musician Dave Gross at 8 p.m. Sept. 29.

The series boasts 13 performances in a myriad of genres including Jazz singers, blues guitarists, Broadway musicals, break dancing, a Celtic band and more.

Partnering with Clovis Municipal Schools allows for an educational outreach program in which area students will be able to participate in workshops and see the artists in action.

Dave Gross, 8 p.m., Sept. 29 at the Lyceum Theatre.

The legendary blues musician and his band will take steps back in time to play swing from the 30s and 40s and blues from the 40s and 50s.

Beehive: The 60’s Musical, 6 p.m., Oct. 14 at the Marshall Auditorium. A look back at girl groups and soloists from the era.

BREAK: The Urban Funk Spectacular, 7 p.m., Oct. 27 at the Marshall Auditorium. The fun show explores the evolving world of break dancing.

Gaelic Storm, 7 p.m., Nov. 10 at the Lyceum Theatre. The group featured in the movie “Titanic” as the “steerage party band” will provide rousing vocals, dance tunes and ballads along with humor.

Barrage, 7 p.m., Dec. 4 at the Marshall Auditorium. Violinists take the stage will dance, sing, tumble and duel during their holiday performance.

A Night on Broadway with David Geist, 7 p.m., Jan. 26 at the Holiday Inn of Clovis. The pianist who performed on Broadway for hits including “Cats,” “The Lion King,” and “Wicked” will perform in a fund-raiser for the series.

Orchid Ensemble, 7 p.m., Feb. 9 at the Marshall Auditorium. The trio blends ancient instruments and traditions from China and beyond.

Wonderful Ice Cream Suit, 7 p.m., Feb. 22 at the Marshall Auditorium. Clovis is one of two New Mexico cities presenting the play by Ray Bradbury.

CAVA, 7 p.m., March 1 at the Clovis Civic Center. Singer combines Latin tunes with jazz, Peruvian soul, cumbia and salsa during a dance at the civic center.

Gabriella Montero, 7 p.m., March 14 at the Marshall Auditorium. The classical pianist was featured on CBS’ hit news show “60 minutes.”

Irving Berlin’s I Love a Piano, 7 p.m., April 8 at the Marshall Auditorium. Show celebrates the artist with more than 50 of Berlin’s tunes.

Santa Fe Opera Performers, 7 p.m., April 23 at Town Hall, Clovis. The performers will appear during their annual spring tour.

Cinco de Mayo, 6 p.m., May 3 at the American Legion Post 25. Event will feature the New Mexico band, Los Tropicales, a group that blends the sounds of bolero, tejano and Latin jazz.
