Zias drop seventh-straight match at West Texas A&M

First-year Zia volleyball head coach Kim Falkenhagen probably could have imagined a better homecoming to her former stomping grounds in Canyon than she got Wednesday night.

As it turned out, her Zias (3-14, 0-3 LSC) were swept by the 19th-ranked West Texas Lady Buffs (13-5, 3-0 LSC), 30-19, 30-28, 30-22.

The bright spot for the Zias Wednesday night was freshman outside hitter Veronica Valdez, from Canyon High School. Valdez collected 10 kills for the Zias to reach double figures for the fifth time in her college career.

Falkenhagen spent three seasons as an assistant with the Lady Buffs from 2000-2002.

The Zias return home to play Abilene Christian Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Greyhound Arena.
