Actress has no business in uniform

“The few. The proud. The blonde.”

OK, I’ll give everyone a minute to reread the sentence, shake their heads, frown and reread the sentence.

Yep, the last word is blonde because this is the tagline for Jessica Simpson’s latest movie, titled “Major Movie Star.”

According to several questionable news sources (AKA gossip magazines), the blonde starlet will play a high-maintenance actress (whew, big stretch there) who joins the Marines hoping to toughen up for a role in a military-themed movie.

OK, I know it’s a movie and I know it’s fiction, but I would have to say it would be a far stretch to imagine a 27-year-old singer turned actress being accepted into the military.

One magazine quoted Simpson as saying, “It's pretty much ‘Private Benjamin’ meets ‘Stripes.’”

So, Miss Simpson is daring to compare her acting talents to Goldie Hawn and Bill Murray? Please, she couldn’t even pull off a decent Daisy Duke. Her only saving grace was that she looked good in a bikini.

In an interview, Simpson said she has a "newfound respect" for the armed services after learning how to march, salute, and practice "very strict" military regulations.

Wow, if she thinks marching and saluting are hard, imagine how she would feel if she actually had to leave her husband and children behind while she spent four months in Iraq?

Yes, my claws are out on this because I feel like the women who proudly serve in our military deserve respect. They balance careers and families with dignity and grace.

So, maybe Simpson should stick to what she does best — posing for pictures — and leave the camouflage to the women who earned the right to wear it.
