Coordinator seeks news

Tonya Fennell: Cannon Connections

I grew up in the newspaper business.

From fifth grade through my junior year in high school, I was raised by an aunt and uncle who owned and operated a small weekly newspaper in Texas. They also ran a small printing company and photography studio.

I literally spent hundreds of hours delivering bills (on bicycle or foot), collating print jobs and placing mailing labels, counting, sorting and tying newspapers. I even had a newspaper route one time. As I matured, my responsibilities grew to include typing copy, taking and processing photographs, laying out the newspaper and writing school news.

I chose journalism as my career and I still love everything about the newspaper business.

Now I am news coordinator for this publication, the Cannon Connections.

My goal for this weekly military newspaper is no different from my uncle’s goal for his weekly newspaper, the Grandview Tribune. I want it to have a strong community voice.

Cannon Connections has been around for a few months now and while I have covered many interesting people (like Col. Peggy Poore and Master Sgt. Schuyler Beers), I know there are probably hundreds of interesting Cannon people worthy of a picture or story.

Cannon public affairs have assisted me with every major story but they can’t be everywhere and neither

can I.

That’s where you, the reader, come in.

Do you have an interesting hobby?

Did your kid win a blue ribbon?

Are you an animal activist, a triathlon competitor or a speed reader?

Are you an amateur photographer, closet writer or cartoonist?

Well, I want to hear about it and chances are if I find it interesting then someone else does too.

People love to read about people. It’s as simple as that.

So, give me a call or send me an e-mail with your ideas.
