Curry County Sheriff’s deputies charged six inmates at the Curry County Detention center Wednesday in connection with the July 19 battery of another 41-year-old inmate, according to an incident report.
The men are each charged with one misdemeanor count of battery, and $500 was added to their respective bonds, the report said.
Michael Prince told deputies the inmates attacked him when he was placed in Pod 1, demanding he “break bread” with them, prison slang for sharing of contraband, the report said.
Prince said he told the inmates he did not have any contraband to share and, according to the report, said they began beating him.
The inmates reportedly told the officers they didn’t see anything or have any involvement in the incident.
Prince was released on bond within hours after the alleged attack. Family members took him to the emergency room for medical treatment.
Prince’s injuries — bruises, abrasions and cuts — were classified as non-serious, the report said.
