• Murray E. Morgan of the state land committee placed four tracts of state owned land in Roosevelt County on the list for the August 16 bidding for oil and gas leases. All the tracts at that time carried a minimum annual rental of 25 cents per acre.

• Members of the Portales High School cheerleading squad took first place in the Class A Division at the cheerleading camp they were attending in Galveston, Texas.

• On The Beach, starring Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire and Anthony Perkins was playing at the Varsity Drive-In Theatre.
