Worrying won’t help

Worry has been defined as the interest gained on torment.

That being true, guess where worry comes from?

Certainly not from God.

Whatever the situation, does worrying help? Does it give comfort? Does worry give peace? Does worrying give control of the situation? If you answered, “Yes,” to any of the above, you must not be a member of the human race.

Worry is the greatest thief. It is the cheater that sneaks up on your blind side. It prohibits peace and leads to eventual illness because it breaks down resistance to disease.

Worry is the opposite of trust. The world is beautiful, but in this short time of our earthly existence, the thief of worry blinds its victims.

It has been said that worry is the interest you pay on a loan that can never be paid off.

I learned a valuable lesson about worry-free living from my cat. He lived in the now of life. When he relaxed he totally relaxed. Every muscle in his body was in total relaxation. When our boys sneaked up on him with a model airplane or car, Tom reacted to the problem at hand and then collapsed in total peace again.

Worry is a joy stealer, a health robber and a dark cloud that hides the sunshine from our lives. Worry is like riding a ferocious tiger!

Guess what? God doesn’t need our help. Let’s let go and let him take care of things.

Looking back over my life I can truthfully say that even in the hardest of places God never left me. All the problems in my life he worked out for my good.

Worrying is an offense to God and a night of sleeplessness for you.

So let’s break the worry habit. When the gnawing, tormenting thought of worry awakens you in the still small hours of the morning, let this verse be in your heart: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3.

Memorize: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Keeping God’s Word in your heart is a lot better than sleeping pills. The “Gos-pill” is the best sleeping pill there is. Try it. You will have restful sleep again.

If we had only 24 hours to live, how would we spend it? By worrying? I doubt it. We would want to make every second count. I would want to feel my husband’s arms around me. I would want to tell others what they mean to me. I would want to sit in the swing and listen to the chorus of my mockingbird. I would want to hear the laughter of children at play and I would want to enjoy the fellowship of friends. If I would live my last 24 hours doing this, why wait? Why not do that now?

I cannot change anything by worry, but I can change my world by remembering Romans 12:2: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

The same God who created the heavens and the earth knows all about our needs. He is still in control. We do not walk by what we see in the natural world. We live by faith and faith moves God. Conflicts do come in this life and if we dwell on them we slip into despair and do not see the real blessings.

My battle cry is “We always have more blessings than problems.” We are rich in family, friends, and most of all, Jesus!
