• Wilbur Smartnick, former director of audits for the New Mexico State Auditors Office, was named internal auditor for Eastern New Mexico University

• Eastern New Mexico University and the Portales Police Department were awarded a combined total of $38,000 in grant money from a $1.2 million federal grant. ENMU received $30,000 of the money to establish a drug abuse program in Tucumcari and Portales, while the police department received $8,000 to establish a two-man community relations team.
