Clovis radio station KTQM-FM and Portales radio stations KSEL-FM and KSMX-FM were winners in the New Mexico Broadcaster’s Association Excellence in Broadcasting Awards, according to the NMBA Web site.
In its division, KTQM earned awards for best complete newscast and best public service announcement for United Way of Eastern New Mexico, and tied for best single topic news event coverage for reporting of the new mission for Cannon Air Force Base.
KSMX was named station of the year in its division, and won for best 60-second commercial for Carpet Tech, best Web site, best talk show for “A Closer Look” and best public service campaign for “Operation Thank You. Its “Home Sweet Home” series captured best station promotional announcement in its category.
In its radio division, KSEL took honors for best 30-second commercial for Al’s Pets and best DJ personality aircheck for “Morning Throwdown with Kevin and Doc.” The station’s Kevin Robbins earned the best single topic event news coverage. KSEL tied for best public service announcement for “DWI Taskforce: Don’t Drink and Drive.”
The stations received the awards at NMBA’s convention in Albuquerque the weekend of June 9.
Judging was done by a group of broadcasters from outside New Mexico.
Kwan elected society president
Dr. Albert Kwan of Clovis was elected president of the 3,000-member New Mexico Medical Society at its 121st annual meeting in Albuquerque, according to an NMMS news release.
Kwan has been a surgeon in private practice in Clovis since 1993.
A 1983 University of New Mexico School of Medicine graduate, Kwan performed his surgical residency at Texas Tech and then served as a flight surgeon in Desert Storm from 1986 to 1993.
Born in Hong Kong, Kwan came to the United States to attend college when he was 19. He has six children, three of whom have followed him into medicine.
Kwan serves as governor of the New Mexico Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of New Mexico.
Edward Jones expands in Clovis
Edward Jones financial advisor Todd Spencer has opened a new office at 2500 Ashford Drive. Brett Prince has taken over the Edward Jones office Spencer previously operated at 600 West 21st St.
Spencer said he has been in business in Clovis more than four years and moved to what he believes is a better location.
Prince said he has been with Edward Jones since 2006 and previously worked in Artesia.
