Area seniors look forward to graduation

The final countdown has begun as area seniors prepare for graduation ceremonies that are set to take place over the coming weekend.

Originally not a believer of the old adage that time flies ..., Elida senior Tanner Burrows has learned that it actually does as he prepares to graduate on Saturday.

“It feels pretty good to finally make it,” Burrows said.

Busy with school work and participating in high school rodeo events and serving as FFA president for the past year has kept Burrows plenty busy. Though he has only been enrolled in Elida schools for the past two years, Burrows is glad to be graduating from the school, he said.

“It’s a good school, a tight-knit school,” Burrows said.

For now, Burrows has plans to pursue a degree in agriculture and is currently looking into the possibly of attending Eastern New Mexico University, he said.

Across the county, Dora senior Austin Prewett has also had a busy year. Active in Business Professionals of America, and FFA, he was finishing up last minute details in preparation of graduation on Sunday.

“I feel wonderful about graduating. I’m so excited,” Prewett said.

Dealing with a bad case of “senioritis” for the past two months, Prewett stated that he was definitely ready for graduation. Prewett is enrolled at Texas Tech University for the fall semester, with plans to become a pharmacist, he said.

“I have also been thinking of other cool jobs,” Prewett said.

On Saturday, both Floyd and Elida will hold commencement exercises for the 2007 Senior classes, while Dora will hold graduation exercises on Sunday afternoon. Both Dora and Floyd will each have 15 seniors that will be receiving their diplomas, while the Elida class will have seven graduating seniors, according to school officials.
