Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Cannon Enlisted Spouses’ Club and Cannon Officers’ Spouses’ Club honored 14 students and military spouses with scholarships totaling more than $13,000 according to a news release from the clubs.
Eight Cannon OSC scholarships were awarded to the following students and spouses: Erin Bailey, wife of Maj. Jason Bailey, who is working toward a master’s degree at Troy University; Bonnie Gillespie, wife of Tech. Sgt. Kevin Gillespie, an Eastern New Mexico University student; Kelsey Ashmore, Clovis High School senior, plans to attend ENMU; Bailey Bell, Clovis Christian School senior, plans to attend the University of Missouri-Kansas City; Eli Godwin, Clovis Christian School senior, plans to attend West Texas A&M; Iris Grooms, Clovis High school senior; Jayme Nauman, Clovis High School senior; and Tyler Waddle, Central Baptist Academy senior, plans to attend the University of Cincinnati.
Cannon ESC scholarships were awarded to the following individuals: Kyle Adams, a Portales High School senior, plans to attend Texas Tech University; Jaclyn Heath, wife of Staff Sgt. David Heath, plans to attend Eastern New Mexico University; Porsha Howell, Clovis, a New Mexico State University freshman; Megan Maher, a Clovis High School senior, plans to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa; Sabrina McCarty, a Clovis High School senior, plans to attend Eastern New Mexico University, and Charles Moon III, a Clovis High School senior, plans to attend Texas Tech.
An independent judging panel scored applicants on academic achievement, community involvement, work ethic, a sample essay and a letter of recommendation.
Scholarship funds were raised through various events.
