Adcox sentenced for role in embezzlement scheme

A 22-year-old Clovis man was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday for his role in an armored truck embezzlement scheme.

Chris Adcox pleaded guilty to receipt of stolen property, harboring a felon, tampering with evidence and five counts of forgery, according to court records.

Adcox was the third and final defendant sentenced for the theft of approximately $600,000 in March 2006.

He will be required to serve five years of parole following his prison sentence during which time he will be required to make full restitution to the local businesses affected by the crime, according to a press release from the District Attorney’s office.

Adcox received about $20,000 for his assistance in the theft, helped one of his codefendants flee the area, and hid evidence of the crime, the release said.

Adcox, Scott Kirby, 22, and Jeremy Hooker, 23, collaborated in a scheme to take funds picked up by the armored truck company Kirby was employed by, records show.

Kirby died in March while serving a 6 1/2-year sentence. His death was ruled a suicide, prison officials said.

Hooker was sentenced to two years imprisonment followed by four years supervised parole, the release said.
