Jack Leon Echols, a veteran war-time pilot, was in Clovis for a speaking engagement. His topic: “Keeping our youth out of foreign wars.” … “The Grapes of Wrath” was showing at the State theater. “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” was at the Lyceum. “Gone With the Wind” was due to open at the Lyceum on April 15. … The W.F. Rufus Steele-taught bridge school opened with a “disappointing” turnout, the Clovis News-Journal reported. Only 31 had enrolled.
