Manager: New steakhouse opening by March at latest

A Clovis steakhouse featuring certified angus beef on Lexington Road just east of North Prince Street is expected to open late this month or early March, according to the eatery’s manager.

Dakota’s Steakhouse is the second Clovis dining establishment by Jim Clark, owner of the Golden Corral on North Prince Street, according to Manager Eryn Putman and Clark’s daughter.

“We have always wanted to do our own family-owned and -operated full-service restaurant,” Putman said. “Clovis needs somewhere to treat themselves to a good steak,” she said.

With a capacity for 150 diners, the restaurant is expected to employ about 80 part- and full-time workers, Putman said.

Certified angus beef is premium beef that meets standards for flavor, juiciness and tenderness, according to its Web site http://www.certifiedangusbeef.com.

Hancock Fabrics on Prince plans to close operation

The Hancock Fabrics store on North Prince Street is closing in eight to 12 weeks, according to the store’s manager, Pam Humphrey.

Humphrey said the decision to close the company-owned retail store was made by corporate officials, citing the “bottom line” as the reason.

She said the news came as a surprise. The store has been in business in Clovis for about three years and has 10 employees, she said.

A Feb. 8 news release from the Baldwyn, Miss.-based company posted on its Web site announced the closing of 30 stores. The release also cited a drop in sales from $403.2 million in 2005 to $388.3 million in 2006.

Sandia Hearing Centers opens new Clovis office

Sandia Hearing Centers has opened an office in the High Plains Physicians Clinic, 2301 N. Martin Luther Boulevard, according to a Sandia news release.

Based in Chaves County, the hearing centers are owned and operated by Wesley Miller, an audioprosthologist qualified to fit hearing aids according to type and magnitude of hearing impairment, the release reads.

The Clovis staff include Richard Earnest, hearing instrument specialist, and Kelli McDaniel, hearing instrument consultant.

Several complimentary hearing evaluation services are available, the release said.

Sandia Hearing Centers have been in operation since 1959 with offices also in Eddy, Lea, Roosevelt counties, the release said.
