The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education has changed the venue for its upcoming meeting.
The board will decide whether to implement the administration proposal to reconfigure junior high schools by creating a ninth-grade academy at Gattis Junior High School at the meeting.
The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Clovis High School Lecture Hall.
Schools to receive academic accolades
Fort Sumner, Texico and Melrose school districts will be honored for high academic achievement along with 15 other school districts by the state.
Schools and districts that made Adequate Yearly Progress for two consecutive years will be recognized by New Mexico Public Education Department Secretary of Education Veronica Garcia Friday in Santa Fe, according to a New Mexico PED press release.
Honorees will receive a certificate and cash award. The award is $1,000 for school districts and $1,500 for schools.
Literacy council looking for tutors
Volunteer positions with the Curry County Literacy Council are open.
The next tutor training session for volunteers begins Feb. 5 and runs through March 5, according to a Literacy Council press release.
Sessions will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Mondays at Clovis Community College, room 171.
No prior experience is needed, the release reads.

$500,000 available for teachers
A global energy company is offering up to $500,000 in grants and scholarships to New Mexico K-12 teachers.
BP Energy launched its “A+ for Energy” program in New Mexico Jan. 10, according to a BP press release.
The company will distribute grants of $5,000 and $10,000 to teachers who submit creative classroom, after-school, extra-curricular or summer activities focused on energy education and/or energy conservation, according to the release.
New Mexico is the first state in the Rockies to benefit from the “A+ for Energy” program, according to the release.
New Mexico K-12 private and public school teachers are eligible for the grant. Winners will be announced May 21.
