Elida boys and girls win

The Elida Tigers and Lady Tigers were both victorious at San Jon Friday night.

The Tigers remained undefeated at 7-0, beating San Jon 78-65. Five Elida boys scored in double figures as Wesley Gilmore had 20 points, Trenton Chenault added 15, Everett Barela scored 14, Caleb Widener contributed 11 and Ryan Best also scored 11 points.

Elida led 41-22 at the half, and cruised to their seventh consecutive win.

The Lady Tigers also dominated San Jon Friday night, winning 60-34.

Janice Taylor led all players with 14, followed by Morgan McBride with 9 points. The Elida girls are 5-1.

The Elida boys and girls both travel to Texico Tuesday night.

Broncos take second

The Floyd Broncos took second place at the Whitharral boys basketball tournament Saturday afternoon, losing to Sudan, Texas in the championship game 44-42.

Jesus Davalos paced Floyd and led all players with 16 points, followed by Jason Martinez with 12.

Sudan outscored Floyd 10-5 in the first quarter, but the Broncos came back and trimmed that lead to two by the half. Sudan held onto their two point lead throughout the second half.

“We played well in that last game,” Floyd head coach Rafael Roybal said. “Sudan is a real good team, and they’re really big. We played hard on defense.”

Floyd sits at 2-3, and are off until they host Logan December 29.
