A man who held up a convenience store clerk with a toy gun then changed his mind was charged with robbery, according to police reports.
A store clerk called police around 1 p.m. on Nov. 21 to report a man had used a toy gun to hold up a Chevron gas station food mart located in the 900 block of North Prince Street. She said he walked up to the counter and pointed a small gun at her, telling her to give him all the money, the report said.
When she reached for her panic button, she told police he said he was “just kidding— it’s a toy gun” and put the gun away. The man then asked the clerk to make change for him and left, according to the report.
Police located a suspect who fit the description near the store. The case is under investigation.
Police seek bar attacker
Police are seeking a suspect who allegedly battered two men with a gun Sunday during a fight outside a bar, according to police reports.
Joshua Oliver, 21, and Mathis Jackson, 19, told police they were leaving Kelley’s Bar and Grill around 2 a.m. when they were jumped by a group of men in the parking lot. Both showed officers head injuries they said they received when a man in the group hit them with a gun, the report said.
Oliver and Jackson could not identify the people who attacked them and told police they were visiting Clovis and could not think of any reason someone would attack them, according to the report.
Police found the weapon used in the battery when they responded to a home in the 3000 block of Sheridan Street for a report of battery. A woman said her boyfriend had come home and assaulted her, throwing a gun into the bushes outside her home as he left. Another female at the home told officers he was the same person who had jumped the men at Kelley’s, the report said.
Officers discovered the gun was stolen and are seeking a warrant for possession of stolen property, battery and battery on a household member.
