Education digest: Award nominations being accepted

An education foundation for the cable industry is accepting nominations for its annual awards, according to a press release.

Teachers, school administrators, or anyone helping to improve and transform education for children in and out of school can be nominated for the Cable’s Leaders in Learning Awards, administered by Cable in the Classroom, which works to expand and enhance learning for children and youth, according to its press release.

The application deadline for the third annual national Cable’s Leaders in Learning Awards is Dec. 15. Nominations and applications are accepted online at: http://www.leadersinlearningawards.org

Winning educators receive a $3,000 cash prize and an all-expense-paid four-day trip to Washington, D.C., in June 2007, according to the release.

The awards recognize innovative programs that are transforming education in five categories: General Excellence, Cable Partnerships for Learning, Pushing the Envelope, Policymaker Excellence and Media Literacy Education. Maintenance service accolades given

Several local school districts and their employees have received state awards for excellent maintenance service, according to a press release from the State of New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority.

The PSFA Ben Lujan Maintenance Awards were presented Nov. 15 in Albuquerque, the release reads.

Clovis, Floyd, House and Texico school districts received the state awards for well-maintained school facilities, according to an e-mail from Gwen Willie, communications officer for the State of New Mexico PSFA.

Maintenance workers Robert Fields of Clovis, Oscar Lerma of House and Gary Spinks of Floyd received individual Ben Lujan awards for their performances, according to the e-mail.

The award is named in honor of Speaker of the House Ben Lujan, who has supported public education for years, according to the release.
