ENMU soccer players honored

RICHARDSON, Texas — Senior forward Megan Dozier and junior goalkeeper Leif Craddock have been accorded first-team status in All-Lone Star Conference (women) and All-Southwest Soccer Conference (men) first-team selections announced by the league office.

Dozier, one of four original members of the ENMU women’s squad, holds every school record on offense, including career goals (34), single-season goals (11 this year) and career assists (18). The Zias went 9-9-1 (4-4-1 LSC) and reached the league’s postseason tournament for the first time.

Craddock, an original member of the three-year-old men’s program, broke his own school record for shutouts this season with three. He had a 2.18 goals-against average for the Greyhounds (4-11-3, 1-5-2 SSC), who qualified for last week’s SSC tournament and lost in the semifinals to regular-season and tournament champion Midwestern State.

ENMU placed four players on the LSC honorable mention list in senior midfielder Anna Funck, junior defender Katharine Coulombe and junior goalkeeper Stephanie Sanchez.

Funck, also an original member of the Zias roster, moved from forward this season and contributed solid defense and strong passing, while Coulombe has been a steadying force on defense since her freshman year in 2004.

Sanchez started every game in goal this season and broke her own school mark with four shutouts. She compiled a 1.83 goals-against average.

Junior midfielder Nicole Bregler represented the Zias on the all-tournament team last week.

Also, Sanchez has been named to the LSC’s all-academic team. Six Zias earned spots on the LSC commissioner’s honor role — senior defender Pam Campbell, sophomore defender Megan Wonner, Bregler, sophomore defender Kate Irwin, senior forward Kara Henderson and sophomore midfielder Hillary Gintowt.

Campbell and Henderson were the other original members of the program on this year’s squad.

Behind Craddock, the Hounds put four players on the All-SSC second team in junior defender Ryan Atkinson, sophomore forward Jared Morris, senior forward Keith Vargas and freshman forward Ryan McClanahan.

Atkinson keyed the defense in front of Craddock, while Morris set a record for the three-year-old program with six goals. Vargas finished third on the team in points with nine (three goals, three assists), while McClanahan collected 13 points (five goals, three assists).

Atkinson and senior defender Adam Diehl represented ENMU on the SSC’s all-tournament team.
