Lady Rams roll

The Portales Lady Rams capped off a dominating run through District 4-3A volleyball Thursday night beating Lovington on the road in three games: 25-16, 25-17, 25-10 to finish district at a perfect 6-0.

“It was a little sluggish of a game, because it was kind of quiet,” Chavez said. “It just didn’t seem like our style of a game, but they came through in the third game and dominated and finished it off.”

With the top seed in the upcoming District 4-3A tournament secure in their hip pocket, only district perfection was at stake Thursday night at Lovington.

“I’m proud of (our girls), it’s great. We’re 6-0 in district, that was our goal and we achieved it,” Chavez said.

The defending Class 3A state champion Portales girls will get a break, watching the other three teams battle in the opening rounds of the district tournament, before hosting the District 4-3A championship game Nov. 4.

“We’re excited,” Chavez said. “That’s really important to us that we have it at home so we can have the support of our Portales fans, we’re ready for it.”
