A slew of softball players stepped up to the plate last weekend to raise funds for the Oasis Children’s Advocacy Center.

Clovis Softball Association tournament coordinator Roger Jackson said $3,055 was raised through the “Batting Out Child Abuse” tournament.

The two-day tournament at the Guy Leeder Softball Complex featured 31 adult teams.

“We wanted to put money back into the community,” Jackson said.

Teams agreed the money that normally would go toward purchasing trophies would be donated to the center, Jackson said. Umpires, scorekeepers and groundskeepers also donated a portion of their fees to the cause, Jackson said.

Although this was the first year the tournament has been held, Jackson said the CSA/Oasis “Batting Out Child Abuse” tournament will now become an annual event.
