Reeb appointed to district court

SANTA FE — David Reeb said he has reached the pinnacle of his career by being appointed by the governor to fill the newly created fourth judge’s position in the 9th Judicial District Court.

“I’ve aspired to be a judge since I was in law school,” said the 37-year-old former deputy district attorney who has been a private practicing attorney since 2003.

He said he looks forward to the challenges of the new office after spending years advocating a side or cause.

“The biggest challenge is always applying the law to facts even if it means setting aside preconceived notions,” said Reeb, who is married to Chief Deputy District Attorney Andrea Reeb.

Dealing with drugs is another challenge, he said.

“Obviously, drug-related crimes have invaded our society,” Reeb said. “I hope that pushing for drug court will help address drug-related crimes.”

Gov. Bill Richardson announced the appointment Monday.

“David Reeb is an outstanding attorney with extensive legal expertise as both a prosecutor and a defense lawyer,” Richardson said. “His broad experience and his reputation as a man of outstanding character and integrity will make David Reeb an excellent judge.”

Reeb is a graduate of Overland High School in Aurora, Colo., the University of Colorado, Boulder and the Creighton University School of Law.

He serves as a board member of the State Bar Association Family Law Section, vice president of the Hartley House, a shelter for domestic violence victims in Clovis, and a member of the legal studies advisory board at Clovis Community College.

One of two candidates recommended to Richardson by the Judicial Nominating Commission, Reeb stands for election in 2006.
