The intersection of North Prince and 21st streets fills with water after heavy showers on Saturday afternoon. An underground drainage system is being extended from 21st Street north more than 800 feet.

Time: Construction crews will be present from 7 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.

Funding source: Gross receipts tax rebates
Problem: Water pools along Prince Street when it rains.
Solution: The city will extend an underground drainage system about 830 feet north of 21st Street along the west curb of Prince Street to drain the water.
Etc.: The state will resurface Prince Street from 21st Street to Llano Estacado Boulevard after the city finishes drainage construction.
What to expect: Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane with no turning lane available. Northbound traffic will have two lanes open with no turning lane.
According to K. Barnett and Sons Vice President Jackie Freeman, motorists can expect delays. Freeman said all businesses along North Prince Street will remain open but some will have alternate entrances.
“We encourage people to seek alternative routes,” Freeman said.
