Louisa Romero of Fort Sumner died Sunday, June 24, 2006, at University Medical Center in Lubbock from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
She was born in Ricardo to Highino Romero and the former Ricardita Martinez. She attended school at Ricardo. She made her home in Fort Sumner for many years, where she was employed as a housekeeper for Dr. Edward Fikany for more than 50 years.
Family members said she enjoyed spending time with her family, dancing and collecting photographs. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Carlos Romero, Alfredo Romero, Kenneth Romero, Manuel Romero and Timoteo Ortega; three nephews, Michael Sena, Kenneth Romero Jr. and Tim Sena; and a niece, Cecilia Sena.
Survivors include a nephew she raised as a son, George Romero (and wife, Donella) of Clovis; a niece she as a daughter, Lydia Nieto; a granddaughter, Jennifer Nieto; two sisters, Clara Olona (Joe) of Clovis and Romana Sena (Mariano) of Fort Sumner; and her longtime companion, Ray Mares of Fort Sumner.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner.
Father Jerry Johnson is officiating.
Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Sam Sena, Paul Pacheco, Richard Sena, Ricky Mares, Christopher Sena, Randy Romero and Ryan Fikany.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
