Irby, Wanda (Scottie)

Wanda (Scottie) Irby, 78, of Clovis died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at her home.

Born Dec. 20, 1927, in Olton, Texas, to L. E. and Lula Dellis Silcott, she married William H. “Bill” Irby Jr. on Sept. 4, 1947, in Olton. She had been a resident of Clovis since 1953 when she moved from Kingsville,

Texas. She worked as a secretary at Ranchvale School for several years and also as a bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses, Irby’s Variety Store and Bill’s Trading Post. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers,

Roy Granbery and Dubbs Granbery; and one sister, Dana Smith.

Survivors include one son, Rick Irby (and wife, Debra) of Owasso,Okla.; one daughter, Carie Payne (Paul) of Seagraves, Texas; five grandchildren, Bradley Payne, Nancy Messer, Jerrick Irby, Brandon Irby and Grant Irby; and two great-grandchildren, Makayla Payne and Trenton Messer.

The Rev. Mike Eberhardt will officiate services .

Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. (CDT) at Olton Cemetery in Olton, Texas.

Pallbearers are Bradley Payne, T. J. Messer, Jerrick Irby, Brandon Irby and Grant Irby.

Memorials may be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch.
