Firefighters: Lightning likely started grass fire
Firefighters were battling a grass fire in Tolar on Saturday evening that likely was started by lightning, according to Lt. Tim Peterson of the Clovis Fire Department.
Peterson said eight personnel and four units were dispatched to battle the blaze that he estimated was burning in a line across four to five miles of grassland.
He said it was a “problem” after burning for about three hours. About 10 p.m., he was unable to determine when the fire would be under control and extinguished.
No injuries had been reported and no structures had burned, he said.
