Clovis burglar sentenced to 13 years

A Clovis man was sentenced to 13 years in jail for committing a violent burglary, according to a release from the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Charles Ray Kirven, 38, was charged with aggravated burglary, burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit a burglary, larceny, criminal damage and possession of stolen property, the release said.

The charges stem from an incident on April 15, 2003, when officials allege Kirven, along with other individuals broke into a Clovis home and demanded money from a resident. Kirven went back to the home that night, demanded more money, ransacked the home, and hit the resident in the head with a hammer after the victim didn’t pay up, according to the release.

Hours later police arrested Kirven after finding electronic items stolen from the home in the trunk of his car, the release said.

Ninth Judicial District Judge Stephen Quinn determined Kirven committed a serious violent offense, and so he will serve 85 percent of his sentence until he’s eligible for parole, the release said.
