Ara “Doll” Collins, 91, of Clovis, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Madisonville, Texas, to Tom and Carrie Sims Jordan.
She married Brady Byrd on Sept. 20, 1930, in Midway, Texas. She later married Lee Collins on Aug. 12, 1952, in Lovington. She was a cook at La Vista Steakhouse, Days Inn Nursing Home and Chaparral Nursing Home, all in Clovis. She was a member of the American Association of Retired People, and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She was a foster grandparent receiving numerous awards for putting in the most volunteer hours. She won an award from CRMSA meal-site for most hours volunteering, and she also received the five generations award. She was president of Bible Band and Home Foreign Mission. She was a member of First Church of God in Christ.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; four brothers; Kari, Luther, Edward and Eddie Jordan, all of Madisonville,Texas; and three sisters; Melissa Nilan, Fannie Josey and Arie Jordan.
She is survived by four sons, L.V. Byrd (and wife, Elna) of Muleshoe, Wilbert Lee Byrd of Lubbock, Benjamin Byrd (Arthree) of Clovis, Tony Collins of Iowa Park, Texas; three daughters, Alnita Murdaugh of St. Roberts, Mo., Ella V. Traylor and Mary Collins, both of Clovis; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 51 great-great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grandchildren; three nephews; three nieces and a host of grand-nephews and nieces.
Bishop W. Charles Green will officiate services.
Cremation will take place following services.
