Williams, Edwin (Jack)

Edwin Vernon (Jack) Williams, 93, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, in Farwell.

He was born May 24, 1912 in Bethel, Okla., to Albert Sydney and Flora Louise Williams. He attended school at Bethel and graduated from high school in 1930 from Hollis, Okla. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from Southwestern State Teacher’s College in Weatherford, Okla., and a master of arts degree in educational administration from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

He married Ella Ruth Dumbauld on Dec. 24, 1937.

During a teaching career that spanned in four decades, he taught, coached and served as the high school principal at Muleshoe. From 1945 to 1977, he taught, coached, served as principal and superintendent at Farwell schools.

He was named “Man of the Year” by the Farwell Chamber of Commerce in 1977.

He also worked for Tri-County Savings and Loan in Farwell.

He was a member of the Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church of Farwell and was a charter member of the Texico-Farwell Lion’s Club and the Texico-Farwell “Fire Boys.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Johnnie Sydney Williams and William Walter Williams; and two sisters, Grace Clara Snyder and Robin Williams.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Bert Williams of Houston, Richard Williams of Clear Lake City, Texas, Tom Williams of Fort Smith, Ark., and Sharon Armendariz of El Paso, Texas. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Beth Harrington and Rev. Scott Spitsberg will officiate.

Burial is at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell.
