Jane Portwood, 70, of Taiban died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at Plains Regional Medical Center following an illness.
She was born Nov. 14, 1935 in Las Vegas, N.M., to Emilio Weathers and the former Inez Warder. She was reared in Las Vegas and Las Golondrinas. She graduated from Robertson High School.
She worked as a nurse for many years at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, Colo; Vegas Grandes Care Center in Las Vegas; UNLV Medical in Las Vegas, NV; and the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner.
She married Bill Portwood on Nov. 28, 1980. in Tucson, Ariz. They made their home in Fort Sumner for a short time before moving to Taiban in 1994.
She was an excellent cook, loved to read, garden, work puzzles and watch football, family members said.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Miquela Weathers, Sylvia Weathers, Linda Cordova and Alice Lopez; and two brothers, Louie and Frank Weathers.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Patsy Jaramillo (and husband, Johnny) of Taiban; Bonnie Owens (Gary) of San Antonio, Texas; Dorothy Werne (Mike) of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Frank Gomez (Nadine) of Amarillo; Jim Gomez (Linda) of Nora Springs, Iowa; Tim Gomez (Tammy) of Hobbs; two step-daughters, Carmen Imergoot (Jeff) of Albuquerque and Seridan Strongeagle of Arizona; a brother, Joe Weathers (Dolores) of Pueblo, Colo.; a twin sister, Andrea Weathers of Carrizozo; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mary McClain will officiate services.
Pallbearers will be Gary Owens, John Jaramillo, Gregory Owens, Andrew Jaramillo, Matthew Jaramillo, Tim Gomez, Joshua Jaramillo, and Christopher Owens.
A family prayer services will be held at 6 p.m. today at Chavez Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
