Portales wins fourth-straight game

ROSWELL — Ashleah Richards scored 13 points and Portales won its seventh game in eight tries Thursday with a 45-35 win on the road at Roswell High.

Morgan Hill added 11 and Megan Kabrick eight for Portales (12-5), which jumped out to an 11-4 lead after the first quarter.

“We did really well,” Portales coach Brenda Gomez said. “We passed really well. The first quarter, we got it to the people in the right spots ... to score. After that, we started forcing it, we got impatient.”

Joanna Gutierrez scored nine points to lead Roswell.

Portales next plays Tuesday at Clovis.

Floyd routs Lake Arthur

FLOYD — Darcee Chenault outscored visiting Lake Arthur by herself, and Floyd jumped out to a 25-4 first quarter lead en route to a 61-17 blowout win Thursday night at Floyd High School.

Kelli Johnson added 12 and Blair Jaramillo 10 for Floyd (6-6), which jumped out to an early lead and saved some energy for tonight’s home game against Mountainair.

“We jumped out on them early,” Floyd coach Cody May said. “We pressed early and scored about 19 points in the first five minutes.”
