Officials: No students injured in bus crash

No students were injured in a school bus accident Thursday afternoon, according to police and school officials.

A green, Ford Galaxie 500 and a bus carrying 27 Clovis High School students home from school collided on Norris Street, a few blocks from Zia Elementary School.

The driver of the car was injured and transported to a undisclosed hospital, according to Clovis police officer Jordan Hengst, who was at the scene.

Capt. Karen Burns of the Clovis Fire Department was among the first to check for signs of injury. She said the students inside the bus remained calm, but were antsy after a long day at school.

“They were cool. They were just ready to get off that bus and go home,” Burns said.

Police and fire officials would not comment on details related to the accident.

Hengst said the cause of the collision had yet to be determined and investigation into the accident was ongoing Thursday afternoon.

Cory Adair, manager of Adair Transportation, the sole provider of bus service for Clovis Municipal Schools, declined comment on the accident.

The students were ushered home by another bus about 20 minutes after the collision, Burns said.
