Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

At 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a fire in the alley behind the 3100 block of Virginia Avenue. A witness told police he saw two teenagers light two mattresses on fire in the alley.

At 1 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Gidding Street and Tenth Street. Both drivers told police they were backing out of their driveways and struck each other. Minor damage was noted on both cars, and both drivers were cited for improper backing.

At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, police responded to the 600 block of Grand Avenue regarding criminal damage to a vehicle. The owner told police his van had a broken window, which occurred sometime between Monday and Tuesday morning.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, police reviewed the purchase and sale records for a pawn shop on the 400 block of Seventh Street and determined a convicted felon had been attempting to buy a shotgun he had previously pawned. A warrant will be issued for the suspect on the charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
