Dora beats Dexter in Tularosa tournament

TULAROSA — The Dora Coyotes got back on the winning track Friday, defeating Dexter 66-48 in the Tularosa Tournament.

Dora (6-3) got off to a strong start, grabbing a 10-point lead after the first quarter. Junior Austin Prewett got eight of his 11 points in the period as the Coyotes asserted a strong inside presence.

Dexter kept pace with the Coyotes in the middle two periods, but couldn’t sustain it in the final segment. Dora coach Ty Thatcher said the Coyotes wrapped up the win at the free throw line down the stretch.

Tyler Wilhoit led the Coyotes with 21 points, while Clay Smith also finished with 11. Tyler Powell had 16 points to lead Dexter.

The Coyotes play for the consolation championship today.
