PORTALES — New Mexico State Police investigated a serious accident Tuesday morning near Greyhound Stadium that left two men hospitalized.
About 9 a.m., a semi-truck traveling westbound struck a piece of heavy equipment in transport, traveling westbound, according to police reports.
The truck, driven by Michael Mooney, 47, of Woodlake, Texas, struck the heavy equipment, driven by Michael Laumbach, 27, of Portales from behind, police said.
Both drivers were airlifted to Covenant Hospital in Lubbock where Mooney was in guarded condition and Laumbach was in stable but critical condition, according to a state police news release.
No citations have been issued, pending further investigation, according to the release.
