Oct. 16 Club Notes

Encanto Garden

The Encanto Garden Club met Tuesday at the home of Elsie Dean with Jacque Wuest, vice president, presiding.

Guest speaker was Gina Shelly of Makin’ It Natural Health Food Store. Gina distributed gift bags to each member and explained that her motto is “Take charge of your own body.” She also said that traditional medicine is a great benefit to all, but the first step to good health is for each person to eat a healthy diet, consider personal dietary needs, and to be aware of any changes in our bodies.

Gina offered each person a complimentary subscription to the magazine Energy Times, and presented a book, Square Foot Gardening, to door-prize winner Coral Whitaker. Other door prizes were won by Charlotte Corder and Barbara Voges.

The next meeting will include a trip to Carolyn’s Christmas Shop in Muleshoe on Nov. 8. Information: 762-6955.

Grady Alpha Extension

The Grady Alpha Extension Club met at 1 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the home of Maxine Kelso, who hosted the meeting with Carol Nash. The meeting’s program subject was duster mitts.

Suzy Powell opened the meeting with prayer requests.

Business included setting the date for the Christmas party, which will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Senior Building in Grady.

The November meeting agenda will be a downtown Clovis tour, which includes lunch at the Guadalajara.

After the meeting adjourned, members were given instructions and made duster mitts using gloves, pom-poms, buttons, beads, etc.

Members present were Gwen Allen, Maxine Kelso, Carol Nash, Opal and Suzy Powell, Carolyn Shipley, LaVera Sours, Gladys Thomas, Naomi Williams and a guest, Shaylee Sours.

The next meeting is at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 1 at the Guadalajara Restaurant in Clovis.Chaparral Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at the Fairgrounds Extension Building.

Claud Rainy Day Homemakers

The Claud Rainy Day Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from September through May both in homes and at the Fairgrounds Extension Building.

The Fairfield Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month both in homes and at the Fairgrounds Extension Building.

The Grady Alpha Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month at the Grady Senior Citizens Center.

The Home at Heart Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 3rd Monday of the month from September through May at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Extension Building.

The Just Us Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 2nd Tuesday night of the month at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Melrose.

The Melrose Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month in members’ homes.

The Nite Owl Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month at the Fairgrounds Extension Building.

The Ranchvale Extension Homemakers Club meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month in members’ homes.

Beta Phi Chapter

The Beta Phi chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha held its October business meeting, hosted by Collene Baldwin. The meeting was presided by June Patrick, vice president. Mary Ann Vinson, ESA publicity chairman, read correspondence. Three guests were introduced: Michelle Richmond, Jennifer Brunson and Diane Chapman.

Ms. Baldwin reported that Beta Phi received a certificate from Easter Seals for participating in the Cartridge For Kids event. Contributions were collected for the ongoing Easter Seals raffle of “Sammy’s Circus.” Also discussed was the “It’s a Plastic Raffle,” where gift cards worth $300, $150 and $50 will be given away with a choice of stores to choose the gift card from. A fund-raising garage sale will be held Nov. 5 at Ms. Vinson’s home.

Vinson said articles were submitted to Clovis News Journal and to Whispering Winds. Applications for the ESA Foundation Scholarship had been mailed out to 16 area high schools and colleges.

Our educational program was “Learning More About ESA.” Members shared their experiences about ESA. ESA Members recently raised more than $110,00.00 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at a single event held this summer at the International Council Convention. This makes a total of over $9 million raised by ESA for St. Jude this past year. ESA is the third largest party donor to the hospital.
