Extradition hearing to be held Friday

An extradition hearing will be held Friday for a Clovis man charged with first-degree murder who left the state against court orders.

District Attorney Matt Chandler said Wednesday the hearing will determine if William Riley, 33, will waive his right to be extradited to Clovis.

Riley is being held in a Los Angeles jail on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

He was scheduled to appear Oct. 17 in district court on a murder charge.

Riley is charged with the first-degree murder in connection with the death of Roshawn Pitts, 20, who was shot three times in June 2004 on Axtell Street, according to police reports.

Riley was released from the Curry County Adult Detention Center June 14 on a $10,000 cash bond.

If Riley waives extradition, then the governors of both states will have to issue warrants before he can be brought back to Clovis, which could take two to four months, Chandler said.
