Beverly Pinkert, 67
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Portales.
Beverly Pinkert, 67, of Portales, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
She was born March 24, 1938 in Pendleton, Ore., to Annabelle and Harvey Exum.
Pinkert grew up in Oregon, and graduated from Athena High School. She married Ed Pinkert on June 2, 1956. They moved to Farmington not long after they were married. In 1958 they came to Portales to make their home. She worked at Hometown Food, Roosevelt County Water Co-op, and helped her husband with his plumbing business.
She was preceded in death by her mother; three brothers, Louis, Bill and Ron Exum; a sister, Carol Johnson, and her husband.
She is survived by a son, Mark Pinkert (and wife, Tina) of Buda, Texas; a daughter, Shelli Mitchell (Randy) of Portales; six grandchildren, Cody and Jenea Pinkert, B.J., Justin, Jamey and Ryan Mitchell; three great-grandchildren, Brent, Casyn and Vincent Mitchell; her father, Harvey Exum of Milton Freewater, Ore.; a brother, Glenn Exum of Boring, Ore.; four sisters, Marylin Peterson of Milton Freewater, Ore., Lois Giger of Athena, Ore., and Sharon Askegreen and Jeanie Schmid, both of Florence, Ore.
Rev. Walter Huber will officiate the services.
Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Cody and Jenea Pinkert and B.J., Justin, Jamey and Ryan Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers are Eric Padilla, Emilio Padilla and Alfonzo Villanueva along with all of her many friends.
Visitation will be Thursday and Friday at Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Wilson Gisler, 92
Services: 2 p.m Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church.
Mr. Wilson Fred Gisler, 92, of Peoria, Ariz., died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, in Encore Senior Village in Peoria, Ariz.
He was born March 7, 1913, in Mission Valley, Texas, to John L. and Rosa Maurer Gisler.
He married Betty Lou Washington in 1949. During World War II he worked in the strategic oil industry in Ras al-Tanura, Saudi Arabia, managing plants for the Arab-American Oil Co. After the war he drifted for a time among jobs in the Middle East and in Europe and eventually Ocotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, where he managed a petrochemical plant for the Celanese company.
They moved to Clovis in the late 1950s. In Clovis, he was office manager for an automobile dealership. He earned a master’s of business administration degree at Eastern New Mexico University and a master’s of public health degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He worked in public health administration at the New Mexico Department of Health in Santa Fe, then moved with his family to Oklahoma City to work in that state’s Department of Public Health, eventually rising to the rank of deputy commissioner for fiscal affairs.
He retired in 1983 and moved back to Clovis where he soon came out of retirement to lead the Area Agency on Aging for the State of New Mexico. His wife died of cancer in 1985.
He spent much of his later years traveling and visiting family.
He was active in the lay leadership of St. James Episcopal Church, the Boy Scouts, and various service organizations.
He is survived by three sons, Galen Gisler (and wife, Susan) of Los Alamos,
Gary Gisler (Carol) of Glendale, Ariz., and Greg Gisler (Lisa) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and four grandchildren,
Andrew and Elena of Los Alamos and Eric and Lisa of Glendale, Ariz.
Father John Rollinson will officiate.
Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis
The family requests that donations be made to organizations conducting research in senile dementia.

Frank Smith, 79
Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Portales.
Rev. Frank Smith, 79, of Portales, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2005, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
Smith was born July 14, 1926, in Truchas to Margarita and J. C. Smith. He grew up in Santa Fe.
Smith joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served aboard the USS Armadillo during World War II. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Santa Fe where he worked at Hanson’s Lumber Yard.
He was ordained into the ministry Aug. 3, 1958, at the Spanish Baptist Mission in Santa Fe. He graduated from Harrison Chilhowee Academy in Knoxville, Tenn. and from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Ky., in 1966. He served as a bi-vocational pastor of churches in Loving, Wagon Mound and Lingo before becoming pastor of First Spanish Baptist Church in Portales in 1981.
Smith also served as a hospital chaplain and was active in the local jail ministry. For many years he was employed at Poynor’s Home and Auto store.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, David, Sam, Ernest, Robert, Joe and James Smith; and a sister, Mary Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Smith of their home; two sons, Franklin Smith (and wife, Marea) and Jonathan Smith (Tessa), all of Portales; four grandchildren, Bailey Thompson-Garcia, Emma, Naaman and Noah Smith; and a sister, Esther Linthicum of Portales.
Franklin and Jonathan Smith will officiate, assisted by Pat Gonzales.
Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Narciso Gonzales, Johnny Gonzales, Pat Gonzales, Sam Gonzales, Jesse Gonzales, Fred Gonzales Jr. and Joe Cordova.
Honorary pallbearers are Mike Rackler and Floren Thompson III, along with his fellow pastors.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Red Cross Hurricane Victims Relief Fund.

Oscar Call, 85

Oscar “Marvin” Call, 85, of Clovis died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, in Corrales.
He was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Quay, Okla., to Robert Lee and Celeste Hedges Call.
He graduated from Clovis High School in 1939. He married Ina Gaddis March 17, 1942, in Texarkana, Ark. He was a carpenter at Local 1245 and worked on many commercial buildings in the Clovis area. Family members said he enjoyed fishing and taking his grandchildren water-skiing.
He is survived by his wife of Clovis; a son, Rex Call (and wife Ellen) of Corrales; three grandchildren, Suzanne Byrd (Jeff), Edward Call of Chama and Kathryn Kurtz (David) of Fort Collins, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Zackery Byrd of Artesia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
Rev. Brad Reeves will officiate services.
Internment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa Okla.
Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Hospice in Albuquerque or Clovis.

Jon Jonsson, 71
Services: 10 a.m. today at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales
Jon S. Jonsson, 71, of Portales died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Roosevelt General Hospital.
He was born June 17, 1934, in Isafjordur, Iceland, to Thorey Alberts and Jon Magnusson.
He married his first wife, Margret, in Iceland in 1957. She died in 1962. He married Sigrid Dyrest on Oct. 26, 1963. He studied to be a concert pianist in Iceland before coming to the United States to do graduate studies. He earned his master’s degree in music composition from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He completed his doctorate in music from Northwestern in 1965.
He was the founder and first director of the Conservatory of Kopavogur in Iceland, and also directed the Icelandic Singers. He also co-edited the cultural page of the largest paper in Iceland and served as their music critic. He taught college at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, before coming to Eastern New Mexico University in 1974. In 1980-81, he chaired the music department. In addition to his duties at the university, he worked for publishing companies preparing hyms and musical scores.
Family members said he was an accomplished composer and was often a featured pianist at university concerts in the 1970s and ’80s. He retired in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eyborg Jonsdottir; a son, Ragnar Thor Jonsson; and his first wife, Margret.
He is survived by his wife, Sigrid; three sons, Einar V. Jonsson, Irving, Texas, Gunnar Jonsson (and wife, Sheryl) of San Antonio, Texas, and Vidar Ragnarsson of Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters, Thorey Goldstein (Barry) of Denver and Margret Evangelista (David) of Stony Point, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and a half brother, Albert.
The Rev. Glenn McCoy will officiate services.
