Floyd Springer, 76
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Cemetery
Mr. Floyd Springer, 76, of Smithville, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at his home.
He was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Dora to Lotus and A.B. Springer.
He graduated from Dora High School in 1948. He farmed in the Dora community for several years after high school. Later he moved to the Austin area where he lived the remainder of his life. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for most of his adult life.
Family members said he liked to fish in the area lakes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Lillian Ruth Springer.
He is survived by three sons, Dale Springer of Rock Springs, Wyo., David Love of San Francisco and Derryl Love of Breckenridge, Texas, a daughter, Cathy Link of Midland, Texas; two brothers, Roy Springer of Eunice and Edward Eugene Springer of Pawpaw, Mich.; and numerous grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Alvin Dever, 76
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Portales Cemetery
Mr. Alvin (Al) Dever, 76, of the Elida community, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, in Amarillo.
He was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Snyder, Texas, to Una Lee and Marvin E. Dever.
He attended school at the Union School near Snyder before the family moved to Elida in 1939. For several years he worked on farms in the Elida area before moving to Portales, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He joined the Army in 1948. He served in Korea for three years in a tank division. After his release he lived in Lovington where he was employed at the General Tire Store.
For the past several years he had lived in Elida.
Family members said enjoyed working on almost anything mechanical from a small appliance to a piece of heavy machinery and was known for his quips and little sayings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leroy Dever; and a sister, Evelyn Dever.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Ann and Lee Annie both of Washington; three brothers, Carl Dever, Dub Dever and Jerome Dever, all of Portales; five sisters, Marlene Shrock of Clayton, Billie Wells of Portales, Elizabeth Morrison of LaPorte, Texas, Mattielene Copeland of Clear Lake, Texas, and Kathryn Caywood of Capitan.
Connie Dixon will officiate the services.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe Smith, Ben Creighton, Gene Creighton, Billy Jack Moore and his nephews.
