Former commissioner briefly in hospital

Former city commissioner Gloria Wicker, 74, was back in the hospital Sunday night, less than a week after she was released from Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock where she underwent surgery.

Wicker was transported to the hospital as a precaution following an irregular heartbeat, her sister Jane Wootton said. “As serious as her surgery was ... people just can’t mess around with something like that,” Wootton said.

Late last month Wicker had surgery to remove an abdominal aortic aneurysm. She was listed in critical condition following that surgery, but she recovered and was released early last week, said Jane Elliott, chair of the Democratic Party in Clovis.

Following some medical tests Sunday night, doctors said Wicker was in good health, Wootton said. At 10 p.m., Wicker was preparing to go home, Wootton said.
