The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of the college of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.

Kristin McCord and Ronald Wall, both of Amarillo, were joined in marriage May 28, 2005, at The Chapel in Clovis.

The Rev. Horace Stacey performed the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Ronnie and Kim McCord of Clovis.

She is the granddaughter of W.G. and Dela McCord of Clovis, and the late Dwayne and Wanda Simpkins.

The bridegroom is the son of Arthur and Sherri Wall of Plainview, Texas.

He is the grandson of Leddie Wall of Floydada, Texas, the late Alex B. Wall, and Dorothy Kerr of Floydada, Texas.

Covenant School of Nursing

Covenant School of Nursing will host a reunion for graduates of 1935, 1945, 1955, 1975, 1985, 1995, and 2005 at 10 a.m. (CDT) Saturday at the Knipling Education/Conference Center located at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

Christopher Smith of Portales has been recognized as one of Comcast “Leaders and Achievers” with a $1,000 grant from the Comcast Foundation for outstanding commitment to community service.

He is a 2005 graduate of Portales High School and will be attending Eastern New Mexico University in the fall.

He is the son of James and Ruth Smith of Portales.

Two local students received their bachelor’s of science degrees June 12 from Oregon State University.

Birthday

Doane

Robert LeRoy Doane of Denham Springs, La., celebrated his 100th birthday Friday at his home in Louisiana.

Doane was a longtime Clovis resident and worked for the railroad.

The celebration was hosted by his daughter and granddaughters.

Robert Doane was born July 9, 1905, in Jasper County, Iowa.

He has one daughter, two granddaughters, and six great-granddaughters.

Artist of the month

Essie Minton

She began her painting career later in life, but has been driven to excel by her deep love of art.

She never received formal training but has worked with instructors Marge Russell and Virginia Gregory. She also had several workshops under Charles Lyles.

Landscapes are her favorite subject, but she also does still life and some portraits. She works strictly with oil.

She and her family relocated to the Clovis area from Arkansas in 1967 when her husband was transferred to Cannon Air Force Base. After his retirement from the military, they established Minton’s Appliance Service and later American Appliance Service. She worked as office manager and bookkeeper until it sold in April 1993.

She has sold a number of paintings in the states and abroad, and has been teaching art in her home for the past 12 years.

She has her work displayed at D & D Family Furniture as well as an exhibit at the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Home Extension Club Chaparral

The June 9 meeting of the Home Extension Club Chaparral was a tea given in the home of June Phillips.

Each member was encouraged to dress up with hats and gloves as part of their attire. Each member was also asked to bring a special tea cup of their own. Twelve members were present and a good time was had by all.
