Juanita Rowland, 80, of Portales, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at her home.
She was born on July 14, 1924, in Clarendon, Texas, to Ella and James R. Shearer.
She grew up in west Texas near Sudan where she attended school. In 1942 she moved to the Arch community. For the majority of her life Portales was her home. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper at B&B TV and Appliance. She retired around 1990. In the early 1980’s she was married C.H. Rowland. Family members said she loved to crochet and tat lace, making afghans, tablecloths, bedspreads, and other elaborate pieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Kenneth Shearer; a grandson, Robert Milburn Tipton; and a son, Earl Tipton.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Rackley (and husband, Damon) of Willows, Calif.; seven grandchildren, JeTonne Renee and Dawn Denise Rackley, Jim, Richard and Dora Tipton, Diana Vega and Sue Foreman; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Doyle Shearer of Portales; and three sisters, Ethel Hitt of Lubbock, Norma Holloman of Belen and Linda Gregory of Garland, Texas.
The Rev. Steve Smith will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
