Leo Dement, 87
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.
Leo Dement, 87, of Portales, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at his home.
He was born on May 17, 1917, in Hollis, Okla., to Ora and Stephen Dement.
He spent his early years in the area where he was born in Oklahoma. The family later moved to Childress, Texas. He married Revenel Borden on Dec. 16, 1937. During World War II he served in the Navy. In 1949 they moved his family to farm in Floyd. He made his home in Portales since 1963. He married Dorothy LeFevers on April 22, 1982.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ed, Lowell, Thurman, Edwin, and Chester Dement; a son-in-law, Coy Click; and by his first wife.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Stan Dement (and wife, Gail) of Portales; a daughter, Linda Click of Grand Prairie, Texas; two step-sons, Randall LeFevers (Bay) of Speedwell, Tenn. and Jody LeFevers (Jill) of Santa Fe; a step-daughter, Regina Warren (Roger) of Pennington Gap, Va.; five grandchildren, Ashley Wyatt (Kane) of Clayton, Chelsey, Carley, and Steven Dement of Portales, and Laura Heisch (Jim Tyldesley) of Los Alamos; three step-grandchildren, Randall LeFevers Jr., Ryan LeFevers and Hunter Warren, all of Pennington Gap, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Shiloh and Judah Wyatt; and two step-great-grandchildren, Taylor Nicole and Jacob LeFevers.
Marlin Poynor will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Floyd Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Leroy Manzanares, Jim Warnica, Bill Welch, Danny Heflin, Jim Scott and Jeff Gill.

Juanita McCalla, 74
Services: 2 p.m. (CST) Saturday at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Ark.
Mrs. Juanita McCalla, 74, of Yellville, Ark., died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2005, at her home.
She was born on June 18, 1930, in Roswell, to Bill and Myree Mayfield Helton.
She married Calvin McCalla on May 20, 1976.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Donnie and Bobby Thomas; and two sisters, Patty Zamora and Louis Norwood.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Stephen Thomas of Garden City, Kan.; five daughters, Susan O’Grantham of Fayetteville, Ark., Nancy Headley of Missouri, Mary A. Weeks of Phoenix, Catherine Freeman of Earth, Texas, and Debra Hopson of Boise City, Okla.; two sisters, Nancy Bourland of Amarillo and Billie Brownlee of Portales; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Kent Goodall will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Layton Cemetery in Yellville, Ark.

Bevan Odenweller, 59
Services: No services are planned at this time.
Mr. Bevan Odenweller, 59, of Portales, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1945, in Cleveland, to Florence and Charles Odenweller.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Parks Odenweller
Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Chariss Southwood-Smith of Hackensack, N.J. and Vickie Millard of Honolulu, Hawaii; and several nieces and nephews.
He married Dianne Bush on Feb. 14, 1998, in Logan. They moved to Clovis in 1999. He had lived in Portales for the past year. He was active in the Senior Citizens, and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge. Family members said friends will remember him for his gardening and the fruits and vegetables he gave them.
