Broncos post win over Fort Sumner

FLOYD — The Floyd Broncos held Fort Sumner to 12 first-half points Friday night and rolled to a 68-53 District 3-1A boys victory over the Foxes.

Junior Jerrod Long led three players in double figures for Floyd (11-11, 2-3 district) with 22 points, including four of the team’s seven 3-pointers. Junior Kyle Kropf added 17 points, including 11 of 13 free throws, while senior Manny Carrillo had a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.

Floyd outscored Fort Sumner 20-5 in the second quarter to build an 18-point lead. The Foxes (14-7, 3-2) got within six points twice in the second half, but Floyd locked up the game by hitting 14-of-20 free throws in the final quarter.

Junioer Jeremy Gauna led Fort Sumner with 21 points.

In girls action, unbeaten Fort Sumner rolled to a 34-4 halftime lead and coasted to a 46-20 victory.

The Vixens (21-0, 5-0) got 16 points from senior Sandy Fortner and 15 from senior Lindsey Mansell. Floyd (8-14, 0-5) was led by seven points from junior Jewlie Paiz.

Elida-Dora — At Dora, the Elida girls maintained second place in 3-1A with a 45-30 victory over the host Lady Coyotes.

Seniors Adrienne Coe and Casey Ford paced the Lady Tigers (14-6, 4-1) with 18 and 11 points, respectively. Elida pulled away steadily after trailing 7-6 at the quarter.

For Dora (9-11, 1-4), senior D’Shawn Pettigrew and junior Rana Terry scored eight points apiece.

Meantime, the Dora boys outscored Elida 13-10 in the final period for a 50-47 victory.

Junior Tyler Wilhoit led three players in double figures for the Coyotes (7-15, 2-3) with 15 points. Sophomore Austin Prewett added 12 and senior Travis Belcher 11.

The Tigers (11-9, 1-4) were led by 15 points from freshman Wesley Gilmore and 11 from junior Thomas West.

FTCS posts win — Caleb Richards scored 23 points and Luis McCain added 19 as Faith Triumphant bounced back from a home loss on Monday night with a 69-42 thrashing of Lubbock Home School.

The Conquerors (10-5), who were upended on Monday by Hereford Community Christian, dominated the second and third periods to pull away after leading the Warriors just 15-11 at the quarter.

Tanner Bruffey led Home School with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

On Saturday, the FTCS girls beat Carlsbad’s Victory Christian 45-26 at home behind 16 points and 13 rebounds from Cassie Paden. All six Lady Conquerors scored in the win. Reshea Kelly added 12 points, while Jessica McCain collected 10 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
