Mrs. Billie J. Younger, 77, of Melrose, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born on March 30, 1927, in Shamrock, Texas, to W. H. and Ruby Corzine.
She moved to Field in 1952 and then to Melrose in 1956. She graduated from high school at Rosedale and she graduated from Eastern New Mexico University, where she received a bachelor’s and master’s degree. She taught at Melrose and Ranchvale until retiring in 1986 after 25 years of teaching. She was a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a member of the New Mexico Educators Association. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Melrose. Family members said she loved to paint, sew, dance, bowl, play bridge and she loved her cats. Family members also said she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Cecille Westmorland.
Survivors include her husband, Dan Younger; a daughter, Danna Younger of Houston; a son, Duke Younger (and wife, Helen) of Artesia; a sister, Lea Haley (Bob) of San Diego, Calif.; two grandsons, Tommy Townsend and Cole Younger; two great-grandsons, Tommy Gunn Townsend and Dylan Townsend.
The Rev. E. G. Lambright, assisted by the Rev. Durward Wofford, will officiate the services.
Friends may call at the funeral home; the casket will be closed at the service.
