Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Dec. 5 Elida School News

Theatre groups often have special traditions that take place after the performances and the show is struck (scenery is disassembled). And the junior drama class at Elida Municipal Schools is no exception. Ron Thorne, the play director, had his own special way of “putting the show away” at a cast party that was held at the Cattle Baron in Portales on Dec. 2nd.

New program

Elida just started a Big Brother, Big Sister program this past week. The seniors who are participating are: Casey Ford, Shalie Anthony, Adrienne Coe, Ryan Dannelley, and Kelby Widener. They are very excited about getting the opportunity to help their younger classmates.

FCCLA

The Portales Junior High School is trying to start a Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America chapter. Quentin Griffin went to PJHS on Nov. 29 to present an overview of FCCLA programs and what FCCLA stands for. Griffin also talked about his experiences in FCCLA.

Griffin is currently serving on state executive council and previously served as an ambassador. More than twenty students wanted to participate in the FCCLA program. Griffin is planning to return to Portales Junior High after the first of the year to talk to the rest of the family and consumer science classes.
