Beatrice D. “Grandma Bea” Garcia, 71, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1933, in Tapia, to Claudio and Frances Whipple.

She was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Carmelitas Society of the Mission of Mount Carmel. She worked as a child care provider. Family members said she enjoyed her rose garden and her pets.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Garcia; a brother, Claudio Whipple Jr.; and a sister, Mary Ann Lucero.

Survivors include her children, Richard Garcia (Annabel) of Mesquite, Texas, and Ben Garcia (and wife, Sue), Jeannette Jaramillo-Hovey (Elmer) Irene Aragon (Robert), Clara Mansfield (Rod), Dolores Chance (James), Kathleen Frese (James), Glenn Garcia, Alex Paul Garcia, and Charles Garcia, all of Albuquerque; 27 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other family members.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Ted Jaramillo, Benjamin and Jeremy Garcia, Bobby and Michael Aragon, and Matthew and Gregory Chance.

Honorary pallbearers are Cody Frese, Jonathan Chance, and Carlos, Dominic, Manuel, Timothy, and Thomas Garcia.

Arrangements are by Alameda Mortuary of Albuquerque.
