10/22/04 Police Blotter

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Police responded Oct. 13 to a local emergency room where doctors had advised a patient was acting extremely agitated.

The doctor believed the man was on methamphetamine and alcohol.

The male patient was released, at which point the officer observed him walk across the parking lot of the hospital to meet with a female subject. The two left in separate vehicles.

The officers initiated a traffic stop on the man’s vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and observed the subject to be extremely agitated, flailing his arms and slurring his speech. His eyes were bloodshot and watery.

When asked when he last used methamphetamine, the subject said it had been three days. When the officer observed an empty beer can in the passenger seat, he asked the subject to step from the car.

The subject subsequently failed at least five field sobriety tests and declined to take a blood test.

He was arrested and taken to the Curry County Adult Detention Center.

Police were dispatched Oct. 13 to the 300 block of Calhoun Street in reference to a man loading a gun.

The responding officer observed three female subjects in a van as he approached the residence with his shotgun in hand.

Three subjects were observed to be standing in the yard. The officer announced he was police and ordered them to the ground. Two complied, one fled. While the officer secured the two on the ground, he observed a shotgun in the grass where the third subject had been standing.

He went after the fleeing subject, but could not locate him.

One of the subjects who complied was found to have an outstanding warrant against him. After he was arrested a small bag of methamphetamine was found on the ground where he had been.

It was also found that he was the driver of the van seen earlier. That van was towed and evidence collected was turned over to detectives.
